The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) know that navigating Medicare coverage can be frustrating. A lot of beneficiaries need to call someone to find out if a suggested procedure or treatment is covered prior to having it performed.

CMS has put a focus on getting a tool into the hands of Medicare beneficiaries that will allow them to be able to learn about what Medicare covers.  This tool is a mobile app that is called “What’s Covered” and is available for free download on the App Store and Google Play.

The “What’s Covered” app allows the user to:

  1. See what is covered under Medicare Parts A and B (and, what isn’t covered)
  2. Find out when you can get coverage and what makes you eligible
  3. Look at basic cost information
  4. See a list of preventive services

The app has a lot of information, but it is unable to give you personalized assistance.  It also can not help you with questions about any extra benefits that come as part of a Medicare Advantage plan. It is limited to basic information on Medicare Parts A and B.

The app has the same information that you can find online or in your Medicare handbook, but CMS is hoping that the app can make finding that information easier, and more accessible, for some beneficiaries.
